Onigiri

In a recent blog entry, I wrote about a letter I received from a customer who, despite coming countless times to the JIT booth at the Ventforet soccer stadium in Kofu, never received the product he wanted. All of my employees reflected together on the trouble they had caused this customer and the breech of faith [that resulted from the incident]. This particular customer has continued to come to the JIT booth, even after sending the letter, [a fact for which] I am sincerely grateful. This customer came to our booth at the latest Ventforet game as well and gave our employees working that day a bag. When they opened the bag, they found onigiri (rice balls) and a letter.

(except from the letter)
“[Dear] everyone at the JIT booth,

Today I thought, ‘I would like to support [JIT] in some ordinary way,’ and [therefore] brought you onigiri made from “Light of Tomorrow” rice. According to one person, when asked why rice balls are delicious, he explained that when a person makes onigiri, he puts his heart and feelings toward the person who will eat them into what he is making. When I heard this, I remembered my now deceased grandmother and mother and the rice balls they would make for me for trips, sports festivals, working in the fields, etc. ‘Humans are the core.’ It was this kind of feelings that I put into these rice balls that I tried to make for JIT and the Ventforet soccer club. Please enjoy them.”

(from the president again)
When I heard the story of this customer and the rice balls and read his letter, it truly warmed by heart. The employees were very happy and gratefully ate the delicious onigiri. Feelings of gratitude sprang up [in everyone's hearts]. Thank you so much. It is such a happy thing to have customers [like this man] who share with us their thoughts and feelings. It takes time to gain someone’s trust back but no matter how long it takes, if you work at it, if you try with all your might, he will see that. Hard work cannot but be communicated to those around you. We will continue. However, the next mistake will not be forgiven or excused. Take up the feeligns and thoughts of our customers and act always with a feeling of gratitude. “Gratitude toward customers. Gratitude toward employees.” Thank you.
